A fan of Softies Cuties sent me this - "Help Help! what to do in the BiG City?!!! #nyc (please don't say times sq, rockerfeller, etc, been there done that) (ps. send me ur addy for postcards!)"
Dear Yvonne - you are in luck. I just came back from New York City. Definitely, I can share with you some of the places we went.
Here are some places we highly recommend, I will let Cyril Sloth our furry friend take you thru.
Start with Bonchon Chicken (325 5th Ave New York, NY 10016) - A must try chicken wings. They also have various locations in Manhattan. Right across the street of Bonchon Chicken is the Empire State Building. We didn’t go inside.
From Bonchon Chicken walk to Grand Central. Although is a tourist spot, but we think is still worth a visit, given things change so quickly there are always new things to explore.
The Grand Central - they had renovated the area. So much cleaner and brighter than many years I had visited. At the front entrance, when I opened the door, I felt like I'm back in 1920. Inside it is big and grand. Take the steps to Apple Store. The view from there is amazing, best for people watching too.
From Grand Central walk to Time Square visit shop like Muji and see the amazing The New York Times building.
Then head to Bryant Park, if you tired of walking take a break here. Lots of outdoor seating areas, they even have a Ping Pong table.
Time for dessert head to,
Lady M Confections - 41 East 78th St. Must try their signature cakes - original, green tea and chocolate. All three are delicious with tea. They also have various locations.
Then head to New York Public Library - 5th Avenue at 42nd Street. I was hoping I could go inside, but it was closed due to Labor Day weekend.
Fun Facts about this library:
This is library where they filmed Sex and the City movie. Carrie Bradshaw once said, it is “the classic New York landmark that housed all the great love stories”.
If you’re energy level is still up, head down to lower Manhattan.
Cafe Habana - 17 Prince Street must try their famous spicy corn.
Need a sweet to end the day, head to
Dominique Ansel Bakery located in Soho. If you're luck, and they still have cronut. That's a must try. Cyril Sloth wasn't that lucky. Instead we had DKA (“Dominique’s Kouign Amann”) tender, flaky, croissant-like dough with a caramelized crunchy crust.
Frozen s'more is another must try - An ice cream that is wrapped in chocolate feulletine (cookie/wafer), which is then enveloped in marshmallow. You can imagine, on a very hot hot day, this is a delicious summer treat!
Next stop to DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass)..
